So, I thought i would do abit on website analysis, and then put in another post about CD cover analysis, seeing as we did do a print ancillary task, so is definaelty worth having some research for. Anyway The band i decided to look at the website for is The Fall of Troy. Musically, they are similar to Enter Shikari except appealing to the more original style of 'core. The fall of troy aren't really well known and this is cleary seen in the website as compared to others, such as Fall Out Boy. So for starters we can see the general background of the website is like a chipboard type background, whihc is eyecatching just from the texture is shows, and the rest of the applications play on this background as a central point, pour example the advert for the new album has been 'pinned' to the back of the board, as if it were real.

This interesting graphic background and other flash-type applications are only present, however in the first couple of lines, the more you read down the page the darker the background gets. And it doesn't take long until its just plain block black. However we can see the notices arranged straight down the center almost like a 'Twitter' page. Definately something to consider in our own website. Below is the title for the website, but what interests me is the tabs underneath that. In terms of 'Web 2.0' we have got videos and images, the band being able to personally upload there home videos to the site for every fan and his brother to watch. This also conflicts with celebrity status in a sort of self reflexive way, the band know they are famous, however the videos show us they are just normal people doing normal things (apart form the gigs and recording etc etc..). besides the videos they have a discography, showing a portfolio of all their work with the songs in each one, they have a shop, for all that web 2.0 fun, (using the internet as a advertsing and marketing place as well as displaying yourself.), what upcoming shows are hiting where, and oh look, wouldn't you know. Their own blog. (which is what the default tab is when you load up the website.

Now is the typography used for the headline of the website, very striking, and white on a dull/black background is most effective. the use of flicks and the smaller size of the adjoining words really emphasises the name and people are going to always recognise the name if it cropped up in a magazine or whatever. I also think the particualr font and style, especially the guitarist in the plywood behind shouts out at young adults with an alternative taste to the mainstream music. similarly to 'shikari's and ADTR's target audiences.

Just next to the tabs under the title is a lovely mailing list, which encourages viewers to sign up and get special information! YAY! enforcing that convention of celebrity status. this font is a bit more formal, but to the point. Unfortunately i can't get the plywood background on here as blogger hates big files, and i hate file conversion :( so if you click on the name you can visit the site, or alternatively just click here. or here? just whatever you do don't click there.. no one wants to see that.
Anyway thats my WEBSITE ANALYSIS, hope you enjoyed it :)
